The Williams Gunsight Co. 6-48 High Speed Tap & 31 Drill Set (model 1767) is a matched gunsmithing combination pairing a 6-48 high speed taper tap with its corresponding Number 31 high speed drill, so you can drill and thread a clean, accurately sized hole in a single matched sequence. This compact set comes out of the classic Williams gunsmithing line, originally developed for the fine, low-stress threading work that comes up around sight mounting and similar firearms work.
Both pieces are machined from high speed steel (HSS) and given a black oxide finish for improved wear life and corrosion resistance. The 6-48 tap cuts the fine 6-48 thread used in many gunsmithing and accessory-mounting applications, while the included 31 drill bit produces the correct pre-thread pilot hole diameter so the two tools always cut the right hole for the right thread. The set measures approximately 0.45″ x 2.10″ x 2.50″, is finished in black/silver, and is made in the USA.
