Description
The Taylor’s & Company 1859 Sharps Infantry is a faithful .54 caliber percussion black powder rifle built on Pedersoli’s proven single-shot break-open action platform. This reproduction traces its lineage to the legendary Sharps rifle carried by Union infantry during the American Civil War, giving today’s shooter a historically inspired breech-loading percussion rifle suited for hunting and target shooting.
At the core of this rifle is a 30″ round barrel finished in classic blued steel, paired with a color case hardened steel receiver that captures the look and feel of original 19th-century Sharps rifles. The crisp single-shot action drops the breech block via a lower lever for fast loading of paper cartridges, and the rifle uses musket cap percussion ignition, the standard system for the original 1859 Sharps Infantry pattern.
Sighting is handled by a traditional fixed blade front sight paired with a dovetail ladder rear sight, allowing the shooter to adjust for distance across the rifle’s effective range. The barrel features a 1:48″ twist suitable for patched round ball and lead conical projectiles common to .54 caliber black powder shooting.
The rifle is finished with a fixed walnut stock in traditional styling, giving it the classic profile of a Civil War-era infantry long arm. Measuring 46.88″ overall and weighing 9.47 lbs, the 1859 Sharps Infantry handles like the original military rifle it replicates, and is configured for right-hand shooters.
