Description
The Hornady Precision Hunter in 6mm ARC is a hunting-oriented factory load built around Hornady’s flagship Extremely Low Drag-eXpanding (ELD-X) projectile. Designed for hunters who demand consistent accuracy and reliable terminal performance, the Precision Hunter line leverages Hornady’s proprietary Heat Shield tip technology to maintain a uniform meplat and resist deformation in the magazine, preserving the bullet’s high ballistic coefficient in flight and ensuring dependable expansion across a wide velocity window.
This load drives a 103 grain ELD-X bullet to a muzzle velocity of 2800 fps, generating 1793 ft lbs of muzzle energy at the muzzle. The 6mm ARC cartridge was originally developed for the U.S. Department of Defense Multipurpose Combat Rifle program and is a modern, high-BC option that bridges the gap between 5.56mm and 7.62x51mm, offering excellent long-range performance from an AR-15-pattern platform.
The ELD-X bullet is a brass-cased, polymer-tipped hunting projectile engineered for controlled expansion at both close and extended ranges. The Heat Shield tip resists the aerodynamic heating that can degrade conventional polymer tips, keeping the meplat and BC consistent from magazine to target. On impact, the jacket and tip initiate expansion across a wide velocity window, making this load an excellent choice for medium game and a broad range of North American hunting applications.
